Armed Forces Day will be marked in Northampton with a military parade and entertainment taking place in the town centre on Saturday, 24th June.

As part of the Northampton Pride Festival, Northampton Town Council is proud to sponsor a special, free screening of the 2014 British historical comedy-drama film ‘Pride’, staring Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton, at the Old Savoy, Home of the Deco Theatre, on Sunday, 9th July at 3.30pm.

Laforey Parade

The Laforey parade will step off from the Guildhall at 11am, following two loops of a route along St Giles' Street, down Hazelwood Road and up Derngate, back to St Giles' Square. At the end of the parade, cadets will salute local dignitaries, including Brigadier David Russell-Parsons, Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire and the Mayor of Northampton. Formal proceedings begin in the Guildhall Courtyard at 10.15am, with a march of the guard and parade inspection taking place ahead of a service of remembrance at approximately 10.30am. HMS Laforey was adopted by the community of Northampton in 1941 during 'Warship Week', a Royal Navy fundraising initiative which saw towns and cities in Britain raise money towards building naval ships. The town raised more than £750,000 to fund HMS Laforey and she was assigned to several operations in Mediterranean Sea, including escorting a relief convoy to Malta as part of Operation Halberd. Local charities, churches and schools also provided the ship's crew with gloves, socks and hats, while school children wrote them letters. When officers and men from the adopted ship visited the local community, a celebratory parade was organised in their honour. Sadly, the ship sank on the 30th March 1944 after...

Tour of the Guildhall Northampton

The Guildhall St Giles' Square, Northampton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

This tour will allow you to visit areas of the Guildhall which are not always open to the public. We meet in the Spencer Percival foyer of the Guildhall. This is the entrance to the old part of the Guildhall by the public toilets and statue of Spencer Percival. From there. we will explore areas including council and public meeting rooms, the old Town Hall keepers living quarters and the basement cells. The maximum group size for tours is 12. Although all public areas of the building are accessible by lift, the basement can only be reached by stairs. Due to uneven floors in places, please wear appropriate footwear. This tour is not suitable for children under 8 years old. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Tours will last approximately 1 hour.

Oak Apple Day

An ancient ceremony of thanksgiving will take place at All Saints' Church on Monday, 29 May to commemorate Northampton's Oak Apple Day. The event celebrates the generosity of King Charles II who donated over 1,000 tons of timber to reconstruct All Saints Church and halved the town's taxes for seven years following the Great Fire of Northampton. The ceremony begins with a thanks giving service at All Saints' Church and military parade followed by The Mayor of Northampton placing a wreath of oak leaves on the statue of Charles II, which stands on the church's portico. Northampton’s Annual Fireworks Spectacular!

The countdown to Northampton's annual Fireworks Spectacular is on! This large-scale pyro-musical event attracts thousands of visitors every year. Entry is free, with entertainment for all the family. Join us from 4pm, with a FunFair and Catering Village offering a delicious variety of food and drink. BBC Radio Northampton host the live stage entertainment with local legend Bernie Keith. Popular local covers band WHITEROOM get the party started at 4.30pm, followed by the Live Performers who will wow the crowds with their daring Fire and Pyro Show at 5.40pm. The local story of The Gunpowder Plot will play on big screens, with the Northampton Film Festival telling the tale of how history's most infamous attempt to bring down the Houses of Parliament has links to the county and resulted in the eponymous Guy Fawkes Night. Recruiting local talent, the film features many wonderful Northampton and Northamptonshire locations that played a pivotal role in the origins of the fifth of November, including Delapre Abbey, Rushton Hall and Ashby Manor House.
