This exhibition, for all ages, explores the processes artists go through to produce their work and the techniques they employ. Technique provides an opportunity to look beyond the artist and subject matter and gain a greater understanding into how artworks are created across a variety of media. On display will be a wide cross-section of works from our Fine Art collection including drawings, prints oil paintings, sculpture and watercolours as well as key pieces from our collections of Textile Art and Studio Pottery

Yoga brunch – Northampton Museum and Art Gallery

Join Maz, our dedicated and experienced yoga teacher, who will help you to reset and recharge with an energising yoga flow. You will be treated to a warmig drink of your choice and an energy ball on arrival. We’ll then begin with a meditation session to ground you ready for your uplifting yoga practice. After the class, we will gather for a healthy and nutritious brunch to refuel and chat with fellow yogis.Brunch will include vegan and vegetarian options. Please notify us if you have any allergies or dietary requirements. Italian embroidery workshop with Sharn Matthews – Northampton Museum And Art Gallery

Saturday 12 November 10.30am - 12.30pm £12 including all materials Learn a historic quilting technique using simple stitches which can be used as a standalone technique, or in combination with other embroidery stitches, to add texture to your traditional or contemporary creations. In this workshop Sharn will briefly outline the history of corded quilting, including showing a 250-year-old example from the museum’s collection. She will then help participants produce a small sample in a ‘sew along’ session that can be used to make a Christmas card. The workshop will conclude with ideas of how to combine corded quilting with other sewing techniques and which designs work best. This workshop is suitable for both people with limited stitch experience and more experienced embroiderers looking to add to their technique library. Booking essential.

Thursday 8 September - Thursday 1 December (no session 20, 27 October and 3 November) 1 - 2pm £40 for the 10 week course Do you love to dance? Come and move with us in this creative, relaxed contemporary dance session for the over 65s. Open to participants from all backgrounds and abilities who are able to move independently, this is a great opportunity to experience the enjoyment of dance and be creative together whilst gaining the physical and mental benefits from participating in dance.Everyone is welcome!
