Lilies on the Land

Royal and Derngate Theatre 19-21 Guildhall Road, Northampton, Northamptonshire, NN1 1DP

Lilies on the Land is an extraordinary piece of theatre telling the story of Britain’s Women’s Land Army of World War II. Based on hundreds of actual letters with Original Land Girls, the play focuses on four very different women who all come together during Britain’s darkest hour determined to “do their bit” for King and Country. Working long hours, in clothes full of mice, the bonds formed during the war would last a lifetime as women’s stories unfold. Not only do they have to learn the ways of working on the land the hard way, but they have to deal with being far from home and their loved ones, as outsiders in unfamiliar circumstances. At times hilarious, at times heartbreaking, this story of some of the country’s unsung heroes is a wonderfully rich piece of theatre.

Markus Birdman: Platinum

Royal and Derngate Theatre 19-21 Guildhall Road, Northampton, Northamptonshire, NN1 1DP

Phil McIntyre Live proudly presents Markus Birdman: Platinum – Star of Britain’s Got Talent 2023 June 5th 2021, I had a stroke. It was my second. I found myself in hospital, mid lockdown, with no visitors allowed. I’ve permanently lost half my eyesight. One night I went to the toilet and sat down on another naked blind man, already there. I was too blind to see him. He was too blind to stop me! So it’s not ALL doom! I’d like to tell you about it. Not to create feelings of pity toward me, more a sense of awe & fawning admiration. I have had a unique experience about a topic, often sniggered over, but I’m keen to make you laugh, but also to raise a little awareness. Well done me! (Ahem!) Markus Birdman has thundered back into comedy with his Edinburgh Fringe show earning him a nomination for the 2023 Chortle Awards. He has also recently written for Jayde Adams and supported Jason Manford at the Palladium.
