Northampton’s theatrical history is fascinating.
Inspired by a love of all things theatre which started when he worked in the Royal Theatre’s Gallery Box Office, Alex Wood’s subjects range from the earliest pop-up theatres, a play in which real swords were drawn in the stalls, Charlie Chaplin’s appearance in the town (probably), stars and strippers at ‘the New’ and the union of 19th and 20th centuries at the Royal and Derngate.
