Contemporary Stitched Textiles The Bassett-Lowke Rooms Sat 8 Mar 2025 - Sun 25 May 2025 An exhibition of Contemporary Stitched Art Textiles We are delighted to be hosting this new exhibition of textiles and mixed media work which has been created by the Visualise textile group. Visualise was formed several years ago, by like-minded artists who enjoy creating diverse work with stitch as the common thread. The exhibition will also feature work by internationally known textile artist and Embroiderers Guild member Nigel Cheney who is the current mentor to Visualise. On display is a diverse array of abstract, realistic and figurative art using a wide variety of media: paper, fabric (new, distressed and recycled) and found objects which are hand and machine stitched, or felted to create art inspired by both the natural world and the built environment. The exhibition includes textile art inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and 78 Derngate itself, with framed and small items for sale. Combining a look round the iconic Charles Rennie Mackintosh House before visiting the exhibition, gardens and shop, followed by partaking of some drink or food in The Dining Room is the perfect way to spend a glorious few hours in Northampton...

Northampton Museum & Art Gallery Saturday 28 September 2024 - Sunday 15 March 2025 The shoemaking industry has been part of Northamptonshire's history for hundreds of years. This exhibition will look at how the industry has affected the lives of the people of Northamptonshire and beyond, not only through employment but providing hospitals, carnivals, days out and Christmas parties. It will explore the history of the biggest employers in Northamptonshire through personal stories and artefacts.
