September 2019: “Knowledgeable, passionate and committed” – just a few of the comments made by mystery shoppers at September’s customer service awards ceremony for Northampton town centre businesses.
Dozens of cafes, restaurants, venues, boutiques and businesses were commended at the third Northampton town centre BID Mystery Shopping Business Awards, which was held at Boria Bar in Castilian Street.
Fifteen of these businesses scored 100% for customer service and were presented with Service Excellence award, while four businesses won Most Consistent Award (these were businesses which had maintained a gold award throughout the scheme’s three years).
Kerry Reynolds, Area Director of Metro Bank and voluntary director of Northampton BID, presented the awards and praised businesses for their commitment to customer service.
“What is so unique about these awards is that they are all about customer service excellence, something shoppers simply cannot experience when they shop online,” said Kerry.
“We want to remind shoppers that shopping local and in person is a unique experience. The face to face service you get from shopping in your local town centre is unique and special – something our mystery shoppers have confirmed.”
The BID recruited mystery shopping experts Storecheckers to anonymously visit town centre stores and businesses over the summer, with the mystery shoppers asking a series of questions after their visits, including:
- How helpful and friendly was the person who served you? 54% of Northampton business achieved the top rating of 5/5 – as compared to the national average of 41%
- Was the staff member enthusiastic/committed to meeting your requirements? 62% of Northampton achieved the top rating of 5/5 – as compared to the national average of 47%
